Playing its final game before the home crowd, the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team claimed its 22nd victory of the season – against eight losses –by defeating Sibley East in a three-game sweep to win its Section 2AA Tournament opener on Friday, Oct. 29.
The Panthers had already defeated the Wolverines once this season, winning in three games at Sibley East on Sept. 6.
The rematch scored out much the same way, with GSL holding off their upset-minded rivals 25-18, 25-20, 25-22.
The visitors got out to a 2-0 lead in Game 1, before the Panthers took the lead for good at 4-3 en route to the seven-point win.
Game 2 also saw the Wolverines up early at 3-2 before a brief see-saw ended with GSL going up for good at 8-7 on their way to a five-point win.
Sibley East was in no hurry to see its season end, however, and fought the hosts tooth-and-nail until the Panthers seized a critical advantage at 21-20 and held on for the three-point victory and match triumph.
