The Cokato Historical Society will host its 17th annual New Year’s open house Sunday, Jan. 8, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., in the Centennial Room of the library/museum building. The Finnish New Year’s custom of melting tin will be demonstrated. Participants melt a small piece of tin and cast the liquid into a pail of cold water, where it forms unique shapes. Tradition holds that these shapes will foretell what the coming year will bring. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, call the museum at 320-286-2427, or visit its website at www.
