Martha Marie Elizabeth Schultz, 99, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. The Rev. R. Allan Reed will officiate, and burial will follow in the Brownton City Cemetery in Brownton. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
Martha Marie Elizabeth Pischke was born June 13, 1917, in Sibley County, near New Auburn, to Carl and Marie (Grack) Pischke. She was baptized on July 15, 1917, at Zion Lutheran Church in New Auburn Township the Rev. Adolph Hoyer. She attended country school, and was later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Hans Werner on March 29, 1931.
On March 2, 1937, she was united in marriage to Adolph Schultz in the chuch parsonage in New Auburn. They were blessed with two daughters, whom together they raised on their farm outside of Brownton. She worked side by side with her husband on their dairy farm, where she also raised ducks and chickens.
She had a variety of other activities that she enjoyed in life, including gardening, fishing, crocheting and quilting. She spent many hours sewing baby quilts, and also helped with the centennial quilt at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she volunteered with the ladies aid. She also was a member of the Pioneer Citizens of New Auburn and the Brownton Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her daughters, El Donna Harbarth of Hutchinson and Carolyn (Cliff) Ruschmeyer of Woodbury; grandchildren, Lori (Ron) Pagel of Dassel, Wendy (Peter) Ruschmeyer of Glencoe, Craig Ruschmeyer of Cottage Grove, Cory (Stacy) Ruschmeyer of Hutchinson and Chanda (James) Greenberger of Woodbury; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Duenow of Arlington and Lillie Lindeman of Brownton; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolph Schultz; son-in-law, Willmar Harbarth; grandson, Jesse Harbarth; sister, Adeline Becker; brothers, Ernest and Gerhard Pischke and stepbrother, Edward Pies-chke.
