A rollicking season came to a close a couple games earlier than the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team would have liked after the Panthers were defeated 62-53 by Norwood Young America in the Section 2AA North subsection title game on Tuesday, March 7 in Mankato.
“It’s been a great year,” coach Jeff Monahan said. “We fell just a little bit short.”
The Raiders took control of the game from the start against a GSL squad that showed its share of nerves early.
NYA – 27-1 entering the game and 2AA North’s No. 1 seed – never trailed, taking a 12-1 lead just under five minutes into the contest.
The Raiders pushed that edge to 16 points at 27-11 with 90 seconds to play before a late Panther rally cut that lead to nine points before the teams headed to the locker room with NYA leading third-seeded GSL 27-16.
