Arthur Marvin Ellanson, 100, of Glencoe, died Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 17, at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Katherine Rood officiating. Vicky Harris was the pianist. Soloist Randy Wilson sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” Congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior and “Children of the Heavenly Father.”
Military honors were provided by Comrades of Valor of New Ulm. Casket bearers were Nathan Fink, Jason Belz, Luke Ellanson, Tyler Carlson, Katrina Thrasher and Jared Bittner. Interment was in Linden Lutheran Cemetery in Hanska.
Arthur Marvin Ellanson was born June 15, 1916, in Linden Township, Brown County, the son of Albert and Mary (Throdahl) Ellanson. He was baptized as an infant on Aug. 27, 1916, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth on June 15, 1930, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. He received his education through the eighth grade at a country school in Hanska. He entered active military service in the U.S. Army on Sept. 12, 1941, and served his country during World War II. He received an honorable discharge on Dec. 8, 1945.
On July 10, 1946, he was united in marriage to Linnea Viola Johnson at Kansas Lake Lutheran Church in Butterfield. They made their home in Odin; Artesian, South Dakota; Lake Crystal, St. Peter and Arlington. They moved to Glencoe in 1998.
Their marriage was blessed with five children, Kathryn, John, Lowell, Linnea and Peter. They shared over 70 years of marriage before Mrs. Ellanson’s death on April 24, 2017.
Mr. Ellanson was a baker, truck driver, electrician and farmer. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He also was a member of the Glencoe VFW Post 5102 and the Sons of Norway.
He enjoyed playing cards, reading, fishing, gardening and fixing farm equipment. He also loved his Chevy truck. He treasured the times spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Kathryn (Lonny) Chrismon of Phelan, California, John (Ellen) Ellanson of Apple Valley, Lowell (Lesa) Ellanson of Greeley, Pennsylvania, Linnea (Allen) Fink of Jordan and Peter (Cindy) Ellanson of Glencoe; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren with three more on the way; sisters-in-law, Marion Johnson and Eunice Johnson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Ellanson; wife, Linnea Ellanson; grandchild, Aaron; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Axie Johnson; siblings, Hans Ellanson, Alvin and wife Marge Ellanson, Clara and husband Leonard Sandberg, Mabel and husband Art Sandberg, Pearl and husband Walter Sandberg, Arnie and wife Lorraine Ellanson and Marvin “Mal” Ellanson.
