Miriam Droege, 83, of Bemidji, died of Alzheimer’s disease May 19, 2017, at Trillium Memory Care in Bemidji.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 7, at noon, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato with the Rev. Bruce Laabs officiating.
She was born March 27, 1934, and raised in Plato by her parents, Herbert and Martha (Beneke) Droege. She grew up in Plato with her sister, Vivian Krause. She graduated from Glencoe High School in 1952 and went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota in 1956. She moved to San Francisco to work for Bank of America. She moved back to Plato in 1964 and returned to the University of Minnesota and earned a degree in elementary education. She taught in Minneapolis schools for 34 years. She retired in 1998. Her Alzheimer’s necessitated a move to Bemidji in 2012.
She enjoyed traveling during the summers and to her sister’s home in Arizona after she retired. She was a voracious reader and loved spending time with her sister and her extended family.
She is survived by her sister, Vivian Krause; nieces, Buni (Bruce) Slinkman and Heidi (Barry Lyons) Krause; nephews, Brian Krause and Hugh (Joanne) Krause; six grandnieces and grandnephews and six great-grandnieces/nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Martha Droege.
Memorials in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Sanford Hospice, Bemidji.
