The Plato American Legion Post 641 baseball team triumphantly returned to action after a long holiday layoff with a 6-2 defeat of visiting Sibley East on Monday, July 10.
Starting pitcher Alex Troska struck out seven while walking four and allowing one hit over five innings to earn the win. Korey Johnson tossed the final two innings in relief, striking out two, walking two and allowing one hit. Both pitchers gave up one unearned run.
Dane Schwirtz doubled and scored on a Johnson single in the third inning, with Troska doubling and scoring on an error in the fourth to put Plato up 2-1.
The hosts put the game away with a four-run fifth inning, with Jack Gepson, Hunter Glaeser, Schwirtz and Streich all scoring.
Johnson and Spencer Lepel each logged an RBI, with Streich driving in two runs in the frame.
