Silver Lake’s 48th annual Pola-Czesky Days celebration gets under way Friday evening with a wide variety of events and activities throughout the weekend.
Friday, Aug. 4 — Country Fried Grubers will perform from 5 pm. to 8 p.m. The famed toilet bowl races will get under way at 7 p.m. on Main Street near the auditorium. A street dance will follow the toilet bowl races until 12:30 a.m. with music by Double D’s.
Saturday, Aug. 5 — There will be flea market, crafts and sales. The volleyball tournament gets under way at 8 a.m. at the sports complex, and a kickball tournament will begin at 9 a.m. at the softball field. The kiddie parade will start at 10 a.m. by the auditorium, with kiddie games following in the Legion park. The kids’ pedal-tractor pull will start at 12:30 p.m. by the park. The classic car show and two-cylinder club exhibit will start at 1 p.m. on Main Street and the west side of Legion Park. A bean bag tournament starts at 1 p.m. by the big tent by the auditorium. The MN-Mini-E tractor pull will be held on Main Street in front of the Legion, starting at 1 p.m. A polka Mass will be held in the park pavilion at 7 p.m. The Royalty Ball will be held in the auditorium parking lot at 8:30 p.m., with music by Up South. The evening will be capped with a fireworks display starting at about 10 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 6 — An outdoor community worship service will be held in the park at 9 a.m. The Lions Club will host a pork chop feed under the tent starting at 11 a.m. The parade will start at 1 p.m. The royalty coronation gets under way in the auditorium at 3 p.m. Also at 3 p.m. will be an ice cream social in the park, a Silver Lake history round table discussion in the Legion back room, and a street dance with music by South 40 in the auditorium parking lot.
