Kristin Kohout of Glencoe and her day-care kids are collecting items for Wings, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children placed into the foster care system.
This is the second year that Kohout has organized a summer service project for her day-care kids.
“Last year, we did cinch sacks,” said Kohout. “We put a baby blanket in there and a toy and some toiletries for parents, and then we brought them to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.”
The idea to donate to Wings, which works in partnership with Common Cup Ministry and McLeod County Social Services, was inspired by a little foster child (name, gender and age are not publishable) who was part of Kohout’s day care for nearly a year.
“We talked about doing something nice for kids in foster care and that’s what they decided to do,” said Kohout.
Rachel Strobel, the child’s foster parent, is touched that Kohout and her day-care kids decided to give to Wings as their summer service project.
