It was one and done for the Plato Blue Jays in this year’s state Class C tournament, as five errors doomed the Region 7 champions in a 5-0 loss to 2016 state runner-up Sobieski on Saturday, Aug. 26, at Irish Yard in Green Isle.
Plato made an early exit from the state field as the Skis made an error-aided second-inning tally stand up before adding four more runs – all helped across by Blue Jay miscues – in the contest.
Sobieski starter Tyler Jendro kept the Blue Jays off-balance at the plate early as Plato struggled to put baserunners aboard for through the initial frames.
However, after giving away a second run to the Skis in the top of the seventh, Plato mounted its biggest threat of the game.
With two outs, the Blue Jays put three runners on to load the bases as Plato suddenly stood one hit away from at least tying the game. However, Jendro coaxed an inning-ending pop-up to squelch the uprising.
