Edgar R. Schuft, 87, formerly of Arlington, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, in Prior Lake.
A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 4, at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Deborah Dawson officiating.
Edgar R. Schuft was born May 7, 1930, to Erich and Martha (Tietz) Schuft in Penn Township, McLeod County. He was baptized as an infant on June 1, 1930, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth on June 18, 1944, both at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township. He grew up in a bilingual home, speaking and reading both German and English. He attended country school near his home and then graduated from Brownton High School in 1948.
In 1953, Mr. Schuft was drafted into the U.S. Army. He had fond memories of being in the Army and described his time in the service as his “college education.”
He married Delores Drews on June 3 1956, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage before Mrs. Schuft’s death in 2006. The couple lived and farmed near Arlington, raising four daughters. They instilled in their daughters the importance of faith, love, honesty, forgiveness and a strong work ethic.
Mr. Schuft was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He also owned his own plumbing and water softener business, Rainy Water Conditioning. In 2014, he moved from the farm to Keystone Senior Living in Prior Lake. While he received good care there, he missed being on the farm and tinkering in his shop.
He loved welding, building things, watching sports and playing cards. He also enjoyed trips to the casinos and dining at Kentucky Fried Chicken but, most of all, he treasured time with family and with his dear friend Donna.
He is survived by his daughters, Heidi (Dan) Scott of Evergreen, Colorado, Amy (Dave) Pistulka of Shakopee and Amanda (Jay) Swenson of Prior Lake; seven grandchildren, Zachary (Kaylee) Livingston of Littleton, Colorado, Elias Livingstone of Bailey, Colorado, Erich Pistulka of Shakopee, Andrew Pistulka of Winona, and Lydia, Kellen and Devon Swenson of Prior Lake; two great-grandchildren, Arielle and Zyler Livingstone; dear friend, Donna Reinitz of Glencoe; sisters, Doraine (Wallace) Carlson of Arlington and RhoDella Grochow of Hutchinson; and sister-in-law, Donna Raitz of Commerce City, Colorado.
He was joyfully greeted in heaven by his wife, Delores; daughter, Lisa (June 22, 1980); sister, Adeline; brothers, Melvin and Jerry; his parents and other family members; along with dear friends and neighbors. Blessed be his memory.
