An old, wooden bridge on Koala Avenue near 155th Street, northwest of Glencoe, has been closed because of safety issues.
McLeod County Highway Engineer John Brunkhorst told the County Board Tuesday morning that the bridge had been inspected last week by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, which discovered that the west half of the south pier cap was severely decayed and deteriorted. The bridge was closed to traffic on Monday.
Brunkhorst estimated that it would cost upwards of $100,000 to replace the bridge with a box culvert. He added that the bridge is in a low-traffic area, averaging about 130 cars a day.
