A three-set sweep of visiting Sibley East in the opening round of the Section 2AA playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 26, gave the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team a 5-0 record in the school’s gymnasium this season.
“Kind of a cool feeling and history making,” coach Lori Schwirtz said of the 5-0 record in the new gym, a mark christened by a come-from-behind defeat of Belle Plaine on Sept. 25.
More urgently, the win over Sibley East also secured the Panthers a spot in the North subsection semifinals.
The visiting Wolverines, which had lost both regular-season meetings against the Panthers, put up a tough fight in the opening set.
The hosts trailed 15-14 before taking the lead for the final time at 18-17 en route to winning 25-22.
