As temperatures drop and slate gray skies foretell of snowfalls to come, the Glencoe-Silver Lake sports calendar also turns from the fall to the winter season.
The GSL dance team has already been hard at practice for its schedule, which is slated to begin with an invitational meet at Hutchinson on Dec. 2. The team will be performing at halftime of several Panther home basketball games this season and will also host a meet on Thursday, Jan. 11.
This week signaled the beginning of practices for the GSL gymnastics and girls’ basketball teams.
Panther hoopsters will be taking up residence in the new GSL gymnasium this winter.
Girls’ hoops is the first of the Panther varsity teams to compete this winter, with an opening game scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28, at home against St. Peter.
The gymnastics team is scheduled to begin its winter campaign on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted; the squad’s home opener is currently slated for Thursday, Jan. 4, versus Orono.
GSL wrestling and boys’ basketball officially opens up practice on Monday.
The matmen open their competitive season at Hutchinson on Thursday, Nov. 30, with a home invitational meet that following Saturday morning.
Last but not least, the boys’ cagers begin their 2017-18 season with a home game against St. Peter on Friday, Dec. 1. For those interested in getting a sneak peek, the Panthers will participate in a scrimmage at Eden Prairie High School on Saturday, Nov. 25.
