Glencoe-Silver Lake’s Knowledge Bowl teams won first place in varsity, junior, and junior high competitions at New London-Spicer (NLS) Saturday. NLS ran a quick meet, with a 45-question written round, and three oral rounds rather than the normal four, but GSL adjusted to the changes and did well.
In spite of this slightly shorter meet, GSL’s varsity team earned an extremely high score with a written score of 37 and oral rounds of 18, 22 and 28 points in the 15-team varsity meet. The highest score any other team earned competing against GSL in Room One was eight points. The result was that GSL’s final score was 109.5 points. The second-place team, Hutchinson, earned 55 points, while the third-place team, Ortonville, earned 54.5 points. In other words, GSL’s team score was equal to the total scores of the second- and third-place teams. GSL’s team members were Jack Gepson, Austin Pinske, Brett Baumgarten and Jacob Reichow.
