Executive Director Lori Pickell-Stangel is stepping down from her position after almost 12 years at the McLeod County Historical Society.
Pickell-Stangel has accepted a position as the executive director of the Brown County Area United Way in New Ulm; her last day at the McLeod County Historical Society is Friday, Jan. 5. The historical society board will be hosting a goodbye party for Pickell-Stangel on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the museum with refreshments and appetizers.
Pickell-Stangel is proud of what she has helped the McLeod County Historical Society accomplish in her 12 years as executive director, and says that none of it would have been possible without the help of the society’s members, volunteers and staff.
Pickell-Stangel says one of the big reasons she took this job was to help the McLeod County Historical Society become more professional and to bring in paid staff, something she helped the Renville Historical Society accomplish. “They (McLeod) had had staff before, but it had been five years,” said Pickell-Stangel. “And they had such a great volunteer staff here in place already and that was really encouraging.”
