Marcella M. Fiecke was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Glencoe, the daughter of Joseph and Emily (Bednar) Molva. She received her education in District 29 country school for first through sixth grades, and then Glencoe High School for seventh through 12th grade, graduating with the Glencoe High School class of 1949. She excelled in geography and spelling. She spoke fondly of her adventures competing in spelling bees. After graduation, she worked as a seamstress at Strutwear, a clothing manufacturer in Glencoe.
