Melvin “Mel” George Jungclaus, 86, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Jon Niebuhr officiating. Margie Hemmann was the organist. The Rev. Neibuhr sang “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns were “My Faith Looks Up to Thee,” “The Lord’s My Shepherd” and “I’m But a Stranger Here.”
Military honors were by Glencoe VFW Post 5102. Casket bearers were Richard Malz, David Aul, Gary Aul, William Aul, Larry Winter and Gail Plaisance. Interment was in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Melvin “Mel” George Jungclaus was born Sept. 8, 1931, in Glencoe, the son of Alvin and Anna (Aul) Jungclaus. He was baptized as an infant on Oct. 18, 1931, by the Rev. E. Klobe, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 7, 1944, by the Rev. Alfred Streufert, both at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He received his education in Glencoe, graduating with the Glencoe High School class of 1948. He entered active military service in the U.S. Army on July 9, 1952, and served his country in the Korean Conflict. He received an honorable discharge on June 19, 1954.
On Feb. 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Lange. The couple made their home in Glencoe, and their marriage was blessed with two sons, Mark and Kirk. They shared 63 years of marriage.
He was employed with Bullert Contruction and Schlauderaff Implement. In 1971, he owned and operated Jungclaus Implement, Inc., which was a farm implement dealer where he worked for 44 years before retiring in 1998. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He also was a member of the Glencoe VFW Post 5102.
Mr. Jungclaus enjoyed shaking dice, playing cards, watching the Vikings and listening to Molly B. His passion was demonstrating and selling farm machinery. He treasured the time spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and watching their sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Jungclaus, of Glencoe; sons, Mark (Debra) Jungclaus of Nisswa and Kirk (Michelle) Jungclaus of Glencoe; grandchildren, Matthew Jungclaus (special friend Julie) of Minneapolis, Joseph Jungclaus of Minneapolis, Jordan Jungclaus (special friend Spencer Bauer) of Hamburg and Zachary Jungclaus of Fargo, North Dakota; nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Anna Jungclaus; stepbrother, Leroy Jungclaus; and stepsister, Marilyn Plaisance.
