McLeod County is hoping to have its new fairgrounds pavilion in place by county fair time in August.
At its Tuesday, April 17, meeting, the McLeod County Board of Commissioners approved a low base bid of $246,300 from Alliance Building Corporation of Sauk Rapids to construct the new pavilion. It also approved a quote of $68,249 from Ben’s Structural Fabrication, Inc., of Waite Park, to provide the structural steel for the pavilion.
The County Board also approved giving John Brunkhorst, public works director, leeway to purchase or contract for related items, such as electrical work and lighting and any change orders that might come up, at a cost not to exceed $50,000.
The new pavilion will replace a now-razed wooden pavilion which, while historic in nature, was considered no longer safe nor reparable.
Commissioner Paul Wright noted that McLeod County was noted for having one of the best fairgrounds in the state with one of the best county fairs.
