The annual Glencoe Days celebration is set for June 22-23, with most events at Oak Leaf Park.
The Glencoe Days Committee last week announced the parade route, which had to be modified to accommodate the city’s street and utility projects. The route will still run west on 14th Street from Pryor Avenue, but will go north on Knight Avenue and then head back east on 16th Street. The parade is set for Saturday at 11 a.m.
The committee also announced its final schedule, which includes the additions of children’s historic activities on Friday night and a concernt by the Minnesota Valley Community Band on Saturday.
A pre-celebration event starts Thursday, June 21, when the Midway Amusement Rides start at 5 p.m.
Friday events start at 5 p.m., and includes the opening of the Midway Amusement Rides, food stands, the annual corn feed sponsored by Seneca; Gaga Ball from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., sponsored by Subway; face painting and sand art, by Candyland Concession; bingo in Shelter 1 starting at 5:30 p.m.; kids barrel rides, 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.; children’s Glencoe history activities sponsored by McLeod County Historic Partnership, 6 p.m.; Glencoe Brewers vs. Plato Blue Jays baseball at 7 p.m.; and free live music by Jonah and the Whales, 8 p.m.-midnight.
Saturday events include:
• Two-mile fun run and walk sponsored by Glencoe Regional Health Services, with registration in Shelter 4. The run starts at 9 a.m., followed by the walk at 9:30 a.m.
• Kids Day of Play at Midwest Machinery, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Glencoe Days parade, 11 a.m.
• Craft and vendor festival hosted by Enchanted Swap & Sell, noon.
• Opening of Midwest Amusement Rides, 1 p.m.
• Face painting and sand art by Candyland Concession, 1 p.m.
• Amazing Hoopsters Performance, 1 p.m.
• Kids quarter carnival, 1:30 p.m.
• Kids barrel rides, 1:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
• Kiddie pedal tractor pull, hosted by the Glencoe Lions Club. Registration starts at 1:30 p.m.; the pull starts at 2 p.m.
• Pie in the park, sponsored by the Glencoe Historic Preservation Society, 2 p.m.
• Mud volleyball tournament, 2 p.m.
• Emanuel Lutheran rib feed, 2 p.m.
• Bingo in Shelter 1, 2 p.m.
• Hula hoop contest, 2:30 p.m. (bring your own, or there will be some available for use).
• Kids Panther Paint event, sponsored by Cutting Edge, 3:30 p.m.
• Fireman’s challenge, sponsored by the Glencoe Fire Department, 5 p.m.
• Bingo in Shelter 1, 6 p.m.
• Free live music by Branded, 8 p.m. to midnight.
• Glencoe Days fireworks celebration, 10 p.m.
