The Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board were up bright and early to hold a special meeting on Thursday, June 28 to approve five agenda items: approve third-trimester teacher overloads, two teacher resignations, a principal resignation and a .25 extra duty teacher resignation. The board then closed the meeting to discuss negotiation strategies and re-opened the meeting to update the board on the process of hiring a principal and budget reduction recommendations.
The board moved through the agenda quickly — they approved the above action items within the first 25 minutes of the meeting. The first item, approving teacher overloads, was for special education teachers who each totaled a ⅓ overload for the third trimester. Superintendent Chris Sonju explained that the overloads needed official approval by the board and that the school needed the overload time that the teachers worked.
